As salam alaykum, guys
How are you doing?? In all honesty, how is life currently treating you?
I would love to know. Deen-wise and Dunya-wise. Let me know how you are doing.
Today, I want to talk about Sabr
Sabr…. I guess that’s one of the concepts that’s easier said than done.
Sabr in Islam simply means Endurance, Perseverance, and Patience.
But what do we do during this period? Are we to sit with our hands closed and just endure, persevere and be patient?
Honestly, it’s really hard, especially when going through extremely tough moments in this dunya, and it’s looking like there is no light at the end of the tunnel in sight.
And most times, it’s hard to explain to people what you are going through and when you finally do, some might not understand.
Imagine someone who has been childless for 15 years and has been praying to Allah,
Or someone who keeps giving birth, but the child keeps dying,
Or failing exams repeatedly,
Or take, for example, the family members of those being martyred in Palestine, Sudan, Congo, Nigeria, and so many other countries that we are not aware of.
Or someone battling a condition that no one knows about,
Or someone who is going through one thing or another in this life,
Or someone who has been praying to Allah for something, anything, and it seems as if there is no hope in sight.
SABR
Honestly, this particular letter is a personal one from me to you,
I can’t tell you how to deal with whatever it is you are going through, but here is what I can tell you…
In those extremely trying times when you remember what you are going through and feel like all hope is lost, remember the story of Prophet Ayyub (AS)
He was a wealthy man in riches, children, spouse, livestock and all you can think of, but then all this was taken from him
Read the full story here…https://myislam.org/prophet-ayyub/yub/
In the Qur’an (Surah 21;83-84), Allah says
And [remember] Job, when he called out to his Lord, ‘Indeed distress has befallen me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful.’
So We answered his prayer and removed his distress, and We gave him [back] his family along with others like them, as a mercy from Us and an admonition for the devout.
In another surah, Allah said
And remember Our servant Job [in the Quran]. When he called out to his Lord, ‘The devil has visited on me hardship and torment,’
[We told him:] ‘Stamp your foot on the ground; this [ensuing spring] will be a cooling bath and drink.’
We gave [back] his family to him along with others like them, as a mercy from Us and an admonition for those who possess intellect.
There is Khayr in every adversity or delay that we go through and only Allah knows the wisdom behind it.
Remember that Allah only wants what’s best for his servants
This is the time to believe in miracles and know that all Allah needs to say is Kun fayakun…Be, and it is
I know that it’s hard and sometimes it may feel like you have exhausted all options, and you are tired, and it’s now become a case of Allah, why me?
In that moment, I want you to remember that Allah only tests those whom he loves, and he will never burden a soul beyond more than it can bear.
Allah is with you, do you believe?
In these moments, these aren’t the times that you start looking for solutions from sources other than Allah, but to have complete faith in Allah.
In that moment, I want you to trust Allah more than ever, honestly believe and even if a solution doesn’t come to you while you are still on earth, believe that your reward is with Allah
I know that people talk about sabr but they don’t talk about the level of belief one needs to have.
Also remember that
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri and Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that."
Narrated 'Aisha:
(the wife of the Prophet) Allah's Apostle said, "No calamity befalls a Muslim but that Allah expiates some of his sins because of it, even though it were the prick he receives from a thorn."
What I want us to take away from this;
1. Have Sabr- I don’t just mean patience and not doing anything. I mean patience with prayer, patience with belief (tawakkul), patience with fasting, patience with charity, may Allah make it easy
2. You have to believe-Honestly, you have to have complete tawakkul and know that with Allah, everything and anything is possible. Your case becoming a miracle can only happen by the will of Allah.
3. Allah is on your side and Allah is with you- Honestly, Allah only tests those whom he loves and won’t burden a soul beyond what it can bear.
4. May Allah make it easy, I pray that whatever it is anyone is going through, I pray Allah makes it easy and may he give us the strength, Sabr and tawakkul to persevere and endure in our trying times
N.B. There are a lot more takeaways; read through carefully.
I am not perfect; all errors and typos are from me, and everything good is from Allah.
May Allah continue to increase each one of us in and everyone in beneficial wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
Till Next Time,
Let’s continue striving to be better muslims,
As salam alaykum.
